On September 12, The House Of Refuge held their first annual fundraiser. The event took place at the Calvary Temple banquet room in Indianapolis and was hosted by President Ieta Kimbrough and the Board of Directors. Pastor Chad Temple directed the evenings proceedings. The program featured three speakers who are not only victims of domestic violence but who are turning their personal tragedies into real life triumphs for other hurting women.

Ms. Mary Glaspy, from The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. (CHIP), shared her personal testimony and described the reasons so many victims are not able to leave a domestic violence situation.

Ms. Lianne Sommerville, from Coburn Place Safe Haven, spoke about the need for more centers like THOR and shared some of the success stories that Coburn Place has produced in the last few months.

THOR President and CEO, Mrs. Ieta Kimbrough hi-lighted the evenings events as the keynote speaker. Ieta shared her personal story in an emotional description of the violence and abuse she endured and her subsequent victory of overcoming the pain and scars of the experience. Ieta then shared her desire and vision to help the many other women still entrapped in domestic violence situations.

Rounding out the evenings program was a brief theatrical production presenting The House Of Refuge and how it intends to make an impact in Indianapolis.

The Board of Directors wishes to thank Calvary Temple for the use of their facilities, Ieta's husband, David, owner of Kimbrough's Catering, for the wonderful meal, Crystal Graves for the production and direction of the human video and all the volunteers who helped set up, serve and make this event a great success.
